Man shot in checkpoint operation
A 17-year old man was shot during a checkpoint operation in Mangaldan, Pangasinan on June 15.
The incident happened at Anolid, Mangaldan during a checkpoint operation at 11:40 p.m. The motorist, resident of Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City was riding a Yamaha Mio motorcycle and did not stop while being flagged down but instead accelerated his own motorcycle and bumped the checkpoint signage that caused him to fall on the ground. Police Senior Inspector Benny V. Centeno immediately approached him but the man drew his firearm and shot the policeman who in turn retaliated, hitting different parts of the motorist’s body. The motorist was immediately rushed to Medical Centrum Hospital in Dagupan City but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team led by Police Chief Inspector Eric Galsim Magtaun recovered one unit of caliber 38 revolver without serial number, three empty shells, three live ammunition in the cylinder, one holster, and two plastic sachet of shabu. The confiscated evidences was turned over to the custody of SOCO team except the motorcycle. The body of the motorist was laid at Funeraria Sur in Mapandan, Pangasinan for an autopsy examination.
