Selena Gomez shared in her Instagram account on September 14 that she has undergone a kidney transplant because of lupus.

Some of her fans noticed that she’s not promoting her new music so the singer stopped the rumors when she posted photos in Instagram that she had a surgery. She wrote in her post: "I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health."

Gomez also thanked her friend Francia Raisa who was her kidney donor. According to Medical News Today, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. This results in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.

Gomez is now taking her time off to recover from the surgery.
