Charice’s grandma: She’s a girl

Tess Relucio, Charice Pempengco’s grandmother, was not pleased when Charice announced to the public that she changed her name to “Jake Zyrus” last June 20.

Charice introduced her new name to the public after a month of her break up with then girlfriend, Alyssa Quijano. She posted her first tweet as Jake and stated that she was very happy on the love comments given by her fans and she was overwhelmed.

Mrs Relucio, on the other hand, gave her insights on what she really felt about her favorite granddaughter’s change of name through her social media account. She said: “Sino ba si Charice Pempengco? Apo ko! Yung Jake Zyrus hindi ko apo iyan, hindi ko kilala iyan.” She refrained commenting before about her granddaughters’ confession that she was a lesbian however, changing her name apparently was a big deal for her. She was not convinced that Charice is happy on changing her name as “Jake Zyrus”.

For Mrs Relucio, changing a name is more than enough to introduce her granddaughter as a transgender man to the public. By doing that, she and her family felt like they lost their granddaughter. “Pinanganak kang Charice Pempengco, mamamatay kang Charice Pempengco. Kapag inilagay sa ataul iyan, hindi Jake Zyrus ang ilalagay, Charice Pempengco pa rin.” she added.
