The Metro Manila Pride March and Festival was held at Plaza De Los Alcaldes, Marikina City last June 24 to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riot, a significant moment in modern LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) social movement.
The Metro Manila Pride March began on June 1994 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City, being the first of its kind in Asia. The local pride March continued the tradition by opening the biggest Safe Space for Filipino LGBT with this year’s theme “Here Together.” This was a call for the community including allies, friends, family and even strangers, to come together in a safe space to celebrate love, rights and pride.
Event co-coordinator Loreen Ordono said: “Even after 23 years, we continue to march. We march for the people who came before us, we march for the people who can’t, and we march for the people who stand with us . . . here together.”
