Marine Private First Class Eddie Cardona Jr. has been proclaimed a hero by Bolinao municipal council and was lauded by Gov. Amado Espino III being one of the 13 soldiers killed in the ongoing war in Marawi City.
Bolinao Mayor Arnold Celeste presented the town’s resolution, “commending and honoring the bravery of PFC Cardona…” and financial support to the family of Cardona Jr. whose remains arrived in Pangasinan on June 13.
A resident of Brgy. Goyoden in Bolinao, the 28-year old soldier was cited for his “unwavering commitment in defending the country against terrorist forces who desire to disrupt the peace and destroy freedom and democracy in this land is truly an act of heroism and ultimate sacrifice worthy of emulation and praiseworthy of recognition of the highest order . . . his bravery, patriotism and selfless service to the country have brought pride and honor to this municipality and a good exemplar to our fellowmen especially to the youth.”
On the other hand, Espino ordered to hoist the Philippine flag at half mast at the Capitol Plaza in Lingayen in honor of PFC Cardona, Jr. and other fallen soldiers who died on the ongoing war in Marawi City.
Espino said: “The people of Pangasinan salute and honor the bravery and heroism of our kabaleyan, PFC Eddie Cardona, Jr. who died in a clash with members of the Maute terror group in embattled Marawi City on June 9. Truly, we take pride that we have PFC Cardona as a brave Pangasinan Marine.”
