3,500 compete in Batang Pinoy 2017 Pangasinan provincial try-outs

More than 3,500 participants composed of athletes, coaches, tournament managers, and officials participated in the Pangasinan Provincial Try-Outs for Batang Pinoy 2017 at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen on July 21-23.
Gov. Amado I. Espino III spearheaded the opening of Batang Pinoy 2017 provincial try-outs for the 17 sports events namely: archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, karatedo, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, and wu shu.

Taekwondo and karatedo events were held in Calasiao while swimming took place in San Carlos City last July 22-23. The try-outs were open to athletes aged 15 years old and below. A selection of possible 180 athletes will represent the province in the upcoming 2017 Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg that will be on October 22-28 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
According to an interview of Sunday Punch, Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Sports Coordinator Marlon Domalanta stated that the grassroots-based sports undertaking by the Philippine Sports Commission aims to widen the base in the selection of potential athletes for national and international sports competitions.
