Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankees’ hit “Despacito” was the most streamed song of all time after six months of its release with 4.6 billion streams worldwide.
Despacito is a Spanish song which means “slowly” that is ironically contrasting to its record as the fastest song of the year streamed for more than four billion times since the day of its release in Spotify and Apple Music replacing the currently number one song “Sorry” by Justin Bieber. Bieber also contributed to the song’s success that climbed up the music charts with his “Despacito-Remix” and was declared the fourth most viewed video of all time in YouTube with 6.5 billion views in just a month.
Although the hit was sung in Spanish language, people all over the world were hooked to the mix of Fonsi’s melodic chorus with Daddy Yankee’s more persistent, urban verses. According to BBC News, the 39-year old Fonsi said: “I don’t want to use the accident because I was trying to write a hit, but I didn’t plan for it to cross over.”
Fonsi also added that he just wanted to make people dance with his song “… and for a song to bring people’s cultures together, that’s what makes me proud,” he ended.
