According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman, six people died and 40 were affected on leptospirosis in some parts of Pangasinan since January. The towns under leptospirosis watchlist are: Mangatarem, San Jacinto, Bayambang, Sta. Barbara, Sual, Tayug, Alaminos City, Binmaley, Bolinao, Mabini, San Carlos City, Manaoag, San Fabian, and Alcala. Dagupan City also had high records of incidence in leptospirosis every year.
“Leptospirosis is a disease caused by leptospira, a bacterium that enters the body through an open wound,” she said. She recommended the residents to have themselves examined by the professionals for their health and safety.
