R1MC to establish eye and cancer center

Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) will establish a five-storey building for eye center and cancer center in November.

First one to be established in the region, the cancer center will have complete anti-cancer treatment equipment located in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City. Dr. Roland Joseph Mejia, R1MC hospital director, said there will also be a construction of an 11-storey building next year in compliance with the Republic Act 10614. Republic Act 10614 was authored by then Fourth District Rep. Gina De Venecia and is seeking to expand the bed capacity of R1MC from 300 to 600.

Mejia said in an interview with Sunday Punch, the construction became certain after De Venecia and her son, Rep. Christopher De Venecia, talked to Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial last August and got the commitment to start the first phase of the construction whose budget would be included in 2018.
